Amala Satyanath Pothen is an Indian film actress known for her work in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films. She was born on August 5, 1960, in Kollam, Kerala, India. After completing her schooling from Kollam Girls Higher Secondary School and college from St. Berchmans College in Changanassery, she moved to Chennai to pursue a career in acting. Her debut Tamil film was 16 Vayathinile (1977), where she played the lead role of a village belle. The movie was directed by Bharathiraja and went on to become a huge commercial success. She has acted in over 200 films in her career spanning over four decades. Born on November 25, 1958 in Kerala, Amala was brought up in Chennai. Her parents Satyanath and Pothen had divorced when she was a child. She started her acting career as a child artist with the Tamil movie Nenjangal in 1982. The following year, she made her debut as a lead actress in the Malayalam movie Ente Sooryaputhrikku. She went on to star in several successful films in both Tamil and Malayalam languages.

Satyanath did her schooling from Good Shepherd Convent Trivandrum and Holy Angels’ Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram. She graduated with a BSc degree in Zoology from All Saints’ College, Thiruvananthapuram.
